LINER NOTES

FRIENDSHIP NEXT OF KIN featuring SELWYN LISSACK
Goody Series Vol. 6

This album was done in London, at the end of 69. British producer Victor Brox, ex-singer with Ainsley Dunbar Retaliation, had the idea to record an album of « New Music ».

For this, he called the drummer from South Africa Selwyn Lissack, who took charge to set up a band for the recording.

Selwyn Lissack is from Cape Town (South Africa), and landed in London three or four years ago. His main preoccupation is anyway the sculpture, having a certain name in this way. He plaid in London with all that the british capital count as musicians. He spent two months in Paris, end 69-beginning-70, where he plaid with Burton Greene, Dave Burrell, etc... He left recently for the States where he stopped totally any musical activity, to be involved more totally in the sculpture.

Mongezi Feza is also from South Africa . He came in Europa at the occasion of the passage of Chris McGregor and his « Blue Notes », at the second or third Antibes Jazz Festival, where this group was representing South Africa. Mongezi is still in the Chris McGregor's group, and plaid also with some musicians as Steve Lacy, Archie Shepp, etc…

Mike Osborne is the best alto player from over the Channel. He plaid in the groups of Mike Westbrook, John Surman, Chris McGregor, etc…

Ken Terroade is very well known, the most known of this group. His collaboration with Sunny Murray or Alan Silva, or with the « Full Moon Ensemble », contributed to make him a fantastic musician, who surprised everybody by the progress he did during last year.

Harry Miller, as his colleague Mike Osborne, didn't play too much or not at all out from England. He is anyway one among the british musicians the more involved.

Earl Freeman is the only one american of this group, and is well known in France where he stay regularly. He plaid with Archie Shepp , Pharoah Sanders, Clifford Thornton, Sunny Murray, etc…

This album is interesting by the fact we can listen some musicians we can't find, or not often, on some other albums (Selwyn Lissack, Mongezi Feza, Mike Osborne, and Harry Miller).
